Bringing Holmes Fully Into The Public Domain

I had no idea that any part of Sherlock Holmes was still outside the public domain until I read this article about a lawsuit that's been launched to finally bring it all in. It's pretty crazy that any Holmes story would still be copyright-protected, but I guess it's no different than Mickey Mouse or some of the other big characters from the early 20th century who've had their copyrights extended again and again.  Shameful stuff, really.
