Really? 4 conferences, that are essentially just big, crowded divisions? That's the solution? Huh.
[Update Jan 6/12: Or maybe not. The NHL Players Association appears to have blocked it, possibly delaying the realignment until the 2013/14 season.]

I don't know why they don't just call them divisions again. I have to admit that I do like the idea that it will now be mathematically possible to play a team in your own Conference (or division) for the Stanley Cup.
How's that, Boneman? I thought the format was going to be 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 in each Conf for Round 1, with the winners in each Conf then playing against each other in Round 2. If that's true, then only one team from each Conf would be left standing for Round 3.
In the initial story I read, there was mention of re-seeding after round 1. However, last night on TSN Dave Hodge explained that it will not be possible for this to happen (he's been wanting that possibility for years).
I guess I mistakenly reported inaccurate information.
