Lost, You're Really Messin' With Our Minds!

So how'd you like that as a last line tonight? Who knew that two little innocuous words like, "Hi, Aaron" could put such a completely different spin on so many of our assumptions earlier in the episode? And of course that last second reveal also makes the final scene from Season 3, where Kate says, "He'll be wondering where I am," take on a potentially new meaning!

So far, four episodes in, this season is feeling a whole lot like one long love letter from the creators of Lost to the fans! And let's face it: what show's followers every deserved it more than us?!

I'm not fully sold yet. I feel like the closing twists for the last two episodes (Sayid and Ben, Kate and Aaron), while good twists, were a little predictable

Does this mean that Aaron counts as one of the "Oceanic 6"?

I know they're really setting the stage for the rest of the season... I wonder how many of the new characters are going to be killed off, though. I'm leaning to think that the funeral that Jack goes to is for one of the freighter folks.

According to the "story" of the Oceanice Six, or at least Jack's sworn testimony, only 8 survived the crash. Yet presumably only 6 were rescued (Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid so far). I don't know if Aaron counts as he was born AFTER the crash.

I have to admit, about 5 seconds before Kate said, "Hi Aaron" I turned to Sherry and said, "whoa..it's Aaron!!"

I agree that the episode-ending twists were a little lackluster. Given that Kate had revealed she had a son about midway through the episode, you knew that couldn't be entirely straightforward. So what other children do we know? Aaron, Walt, random Other children...

That said, I've still really liked the overall episodes. These flashforwards are great.

I definitely don't think it's a freighter folk in the coffin. It has to be more significant than that. Perhaps Sayid. He's off the island, in a dangerous line of work, and I can't think of anyone that would attend his funeral - esp. if Hurley's in a mental institution and Kate seems to be avoiding her Oceanic ties as much as possible.

I'm a little confused as to why Kate saying that she had a child indicated that it couldn't be straight-forward. At what point have they established that the Oceanic 6 were rescued by the freighter crew? For all we know, the flashforwards could be taking place three, six or even nine months later than what's currently being shown on the island. And in that scenario, why couldn't Kate have a child? She could already be several months pregnant (though not with Sawyer's baby, obviously, at least not from the time in "the cage") in which case having a baby nine (or even seven or eight) months later makes perfect sense. You seem to be assuming that this current group is going to 'rescue' them and that it's going to happen fairly quickly. (And that's not even taking into consideration that Kate's trial could take months to come around after she re-appeared as part of the Oceanic 6, especially considering the celebrity around it and all of the legal wranglings that could tie things up).

As for predictability in general: Boneman's example of guessing Aaron's identity 5 seconds before it was revealed is hopefully not considered by anyone as being a "predictable" moment... If, on the other hand, when Sayid was shown killing the guy on the golf course, you said, "Ah, I bet he's working for Benry!" then that would certainly count as predictable, in my book. I knew it was Benry as soon as we heard the voice in the vet's office, but that's when we were SUPPOSED to know it!

Nothing lacklustre happening on this show, as far as I'm concerned. But I guess I'm just enjoying it more than some others (yay for me! I'm having a better time!)

I made no assumptions as to when or by whom the Oceanic 6 were rescued. I merely meant that given the nature/structure of the show in general, things are rarely as they seem. Kate having a child is a pretty big twist in and of itself, which if it were to be the "ultimate" twist/ending to that story, would have been presented at the end of the episode rather than in the middle.

So hearing that in the middle led me to believe there was more to it than that. However, I didn't give it enough thought to jump to the Aaron conclusion - just thought that likely the child wasn't her own.

OK, fair enough. That's a different train of thought than I thought you meant, and that makes more sense. I didn't see it as a "twist" (or fake twist) when it came out (that Kate has a "son") but rather that the characters were being taken to new places in their lives (like Jack becoming suicidal because he can't get back to the island).
