Episode 1 Of Dollhouse Gets Reviewed

We don't get to see it until... next month, maybe?... but someone at Time has a "screener" of the launch episode of Joss Whedon's new series, Dollhouse, and he's posted his thoughts here. It's a somewhat lukewarm review, I'd say, but I'm still curious to check out what Whedon has to offer.

One thing that I can't help but wonder about is whether Fox's Dollhouse will be perceived by some as just a reworking of My Own Worst Enemy (the Christian Slater vehicle for NBC that's already been cancelled midway through its first season). After all, both involve fake personalities being implanted into people who are involved with "secret agent" type adventures (the twist in MOWE is that the phony "shell" is actually not the James Bond-knockoff, but rather the 9-to-5, husband and father milksop that provides a convenient "deep cover" for the superspy). As often happens where Hollywood is concerned, a single concept seems to spawn multiple variations in quick succession. Must be something in the water out there...
