1) What's Miracleman's magic word?
Kimota! OK, so if you didn't get this one right, I'm not sure what to say. It's right over there on the right hand side of my blog page... and it's my name! Yeah, now you're feeling pretty stupid, aren't you!

2) What planet does Superman come from?
Krypton "Rocketed as an infant from the dying planet Krypton..." I'll just bet everyone got this one. I mean, it's not like I'm asking you to name the current Prime Minister of Canada or anything hard yet!

3) What's the first name of Batman's butler? (Bonus point if you know his last name.)
Alfred Bonus = Pennyworth Always a mainstay whenever Batman jumps off the comic pages onto the TV or silver screen, faithful Alfred's got to be a household name by now, doesn't he? Wonderfully portrayed by Michael Caine in the latest (and greatest) Batman film, by the way.

4) Who flies around in an invisible jet?
Wonder Woman I guess if you've never seen the old Lynda Carter TV series this might not be obvious. But what a great image: dropdead gorgeous Amazon, scantily clad and flying over our heads in a plane no one can see. Ah, to live in that universe!

5) Name any two of the original X-Men introduced in 1963.
Scott "Cyclops" Summers, Jean "Marvel Girl" Grey, Warren "The Angel" Worthington, Bobby "Iceman" Drake and Henry "Beast" McCoy If you got any two of those, by superhero alias or even first name, you're doing well! Most of today's X-Men fans think Wolverine and Storm, but back in the day, and for over a decade, it was just those five. Except when Scott's brother Alex and his girlfriend Lorna Dane, aka Havok and Polaris, would show up and bump the membership up to seven for awhile.

6) Which hero had the Kingpin as a foe when the crime lord was first introduced?
Spider-Man Thanks to his appearance in the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie, as well as the many, many issues of DD's comic that featured ol' Wilson Fisk, many people consider him just a villain for the Man Without Fear. But he actually made his debut in Amazing Spider-Man # 50 and didn't move over to bedevil Matt Murdock until years later.

7) In what comic series did Wolverine first appear?
Incredible Hulk Bet you guessed X-Men, right? Or you figured it wasn't X-Men, because that was too obvious, but didn't have another guess, maybe. Long-time fans remember Logan's cameo on the final page of Incredible Hulk # 180, before being cover featured on the next issue. It was a pretty ignomonious debut, to be honest, and the character didn't really take off with fan's until he returned as one of the New X-Men in Giant-Sized X-Men # 1 a couple years later.

8) What's the name of Aquaman's sidekick?
Aqualad If you got this one right, I'll bet you've watched the Super-Friends cartoon at some point in your life! Otherwise this is a fairly tough question for non-comics fans, since neither hero has ever had much popularity outside the genre in any other form. But both hero and sidekick suffer from that oh-so-inconvenient flaw of being unable to go without water for more than an hour.

9) What Marvel series did Frank Miller make his name on in the 80s?
Daredevil Easy one for anyone who knows much about Miller's work, but I imagine right now his name is more associated with Sin City, a series he created, wrote and drew much later. Before his name had the cache to allow him to do things like Sin City, though, he had to make his bones first drawing, and then writing and drawing, the adventures of the Man Without Fear. He came onto the title, in the early 80s, when it was on the verge of cancellation on account of being.. well, boring! And then in the span of just a few issues, he transformed the comic into one of the most exciting of that period, introducing ninjas, shadowy secret groups, excellent villains and a hot little female assassin by the name of.. Elektra!

10) Which superhero was replaced by Ben Reilly for awhile in the 90s?
Spider-Man Generally reviled by fans now, it was all the rage when it was happening. Known as the Spider-Clone saga, Ben Reilly was a clone of Peter Parker who convinced himself, Peter and the shocked comic fans, that it was Peter was the clone of him! Much too confusing to go into here, but eventually saner heads prevailed at Marvel and the damage was undone, more or less, after which Parker reclaimed his spider-togs. Too bad for Marvel: I'd given up on the Spider-titles during that period, with the move from Parker to Reilly providing me with the final "jumping off point" that I needed!!

11) What is the Grey Gargoyle's power?
Turns anyone he touches to stone Just a question to see who knows some obscure Marvel villains who haven't shown up in movies or cartoons as of yet. You can just imagine the suspense at the end of an issue, though, as GG reaches his grey, fateful hand toward the unconscious hero (or girlfriend of the hero) and you read "To Be Continued"! Who in their right mind wouldn't have to buy that next issue?

12) What did each of the members of the Challengers of the Unknown have in common?
Each had cheated death and was therefore living on borrowed time Classic 60s adventure group within the DC Universe, the Challs had no superpowers or secret IDs. They were just four guys (Prof Haley, Red Ryan, Ace Morgan and Rocky Davis) who met up after each had escaped a certain-death situation. They figured, "Hey, we should be dead already! So we're living on borrowed time anyway! Let's hang out together and take on dangerous assignments to help people!" Like you wouldn't do the same thing in their situation!!

13) Name any of the three main characters in Planetary.
Elijah Snow, Jakita Wagner, the Drummer If you knew any of them, you've clearly read an issue or two of this incredible comic series about Archaeologists of the Impossible. Not exactly household names. But damn, they should be!!

14) What planet was the Silver Surfer born on?
Zenn-La Young Norrin Radd, peace-loving citizen of Zenn-La, is chosen by Galactus, the World Eater, to become his new herald and find planets for him to eat. This was the bargain struck between them, so that Galactus wouldn't chow down on Zenn-La after showing up there with the feedbag on. Seems like a reasonable deal: "I won't destroy your planet so long as you go out and find me other ones to eat." Once again, like you wouldn't do the same thing in their situation!!
