Will there ever be lyrics greater than these?
"All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon."
- Pink Floyd, "Eclipse" from Dark Side of the Moon
I think not.

Well the Comfortably Numb lyrics are pretty good, too! And parts of Wish You Were Here ... oh how you're making me miss my IPod!
Gush
sorry. Hate those Lyrics.
And song.
I know this post will not be all that appreciated, so I should back up what I say with an example of repetitive lyrics that are, y'know, good.
Elvis Costello - I Want You.
Oh my baby baby I love you more than I can tell
I don't think I can live without you
And I know that I never will
Oh my baby baby I want you so it scares me to death
I cant say anymore than I love you
Everything else is a waste of breath
I want you
You've had your fun you don't get well no more
I want you
Your fingernails go dragging down the wall
Be careful darling you might fall
I want you
I woke up and one of us was crying
I want you
You said young man I do believe you're dying
I want you
If you need a second opinion as you seem to do these days
You can look in my eyes and you can count the ways
I want you
Did you mean to tell me but seem to forget
I want you
Since when were you so generous and inarticulate
I want you
Its the stupid details that my heart is breaking for
Its the way your shoulders shake and what they're shaking for
Its knowing that he knows you now after only guessing
I want you
Its the thought of him undressing you or you undressing
I want you
He tossed some tatty compliment your way
I want you
And you were fool enough to love it when he said
I want you
I want you
The truth cant hurt you its just like the dark
It scares you witless
But in time you see things clear and stark
I want you
Go on and hurt me then well let it drop
I want you
I'm afraid I wont know where to stop
I want you
I'm not ashamed to say I cried for you
I want you
I want to know the things you did that we do too
I want you
I want to hear he pleases you more than I do
I want you
I might as well be useless for all it means to you
I want you
Did you call his name out as he held you down
I want you
Oh no my darling not with that clown
I want you
You've had your fun you don't get well no more
I want you
No one who wants you could want you more
I want you
Every night when I go off to bed and when I wake up
I want you
I want you
I'm going to say it once again 'til I instill it
I know I'm going to feel this way until you kill it
I want you
I want you
Borrrrrrrrrrring.
Like nobody's ever been obsessed with a girl and then gone crazy before. Sheesh.
Tim, if I wanted creepy stalker-guy lyrics, I'd definitely go to the master:
"I know something about opening windows and doors
I know how to move quietly to creep across creaky wooden floors
I know where to find precious things in all your cupboards and drawers
Slipping the clippers
Slipping the clippers through the telephone wires
The sense of isolation inspires
Inspires me
I like to feel the suspense when I'm certain you know I am there
I like you lying awake, your baited breath charging the air
I like the touch and the smell of all the pretty dresses you wear
Intruders happy in the dark
Intruder come
Intruder come and leave his mark, leave his mark"
- Peter Gabriel, "Intruder", 2nd album
Ooops, 3rd album, not 2nd one. Duh!
good one! Intruder is pretty creepy and do enjoy Gabriel, but how can you compare:
Its the stupid details that my heart is breaking for
Its the way your shoulders shake and what they're shaking for
Its knowing that he knows you now after only guessing
to
I like you lying awake, your baited breath charging the air
I like the touch and the smell of all the pretty dresses you wear
Gabriel's are moon-June-balloon lyrics.
Who's comparing? I'm saying Gabriel's lyrics perfectly capture what I imagine goes on inside the brain of a stalker/serial killer, whereas Costello's words are basically the whining of a "lovesick" loser who can't get over the fact that he lost out to someone else. Oh, will his poor heart break, I wonder? Probably perfect background music for reading Harlequin romances, though!
Yick.
And lest anyone worry:
These are the same sorts of jousting matches, between Tim and me, that have been going on for years. And since he's the person who introduced Vicki and I to Magnolia Electric Company, I do have to cut him slack in the final analysis (but don't tell him that!)
Yeah, I'm comparing.
Comparing a master songwriter with someone is most famous as a visual shock-showman. But that's ok, you can be wowed by the lights, man-bubble and tepid lyrics, and I'll enjoy the genius level talent.
Shock that monkey to life.
****hate you can't edit these things****

*******
Now that's the kind of comeback I'm lookin' for outta you, boy!
Dissin' Mr G would get your ass banned in most right-thinking locations, but I'll let that one slide on account of you bein' mentally retarded, an' all....
