The boys from Broadway, like many of the big market teams in the NHL, have been busy over the past week signing - and losing - players, as the annual Free Agent Frenzy plays itself out. Impressively, the Rangers added two top-notch centres from the teams that beat them out of the playoffs the last two years: Scott Gomez from the Devils, and Chris Drury from those pesky Sabres. Still to be decided are the fates of goalie Henrik Lundqvist and forwards Brendan Shanahan and Sean Avery. I don't really care that much what happens with Avery - he had a good effect on the team, but I still think he's a jerk - but I'm really hoping they can come to terms with King Henry and Brendan. They were both instrumental in the success of the past year, and I hope they can stick around to see if the new additions will allow the Rangers to go to even a higher level.
As Shane at work put it: "This time of year is like a 2nd Christmas for the hockey fan!" I guess that's true, as long as some of your Christmases included seeing presents you thought were yours being handed out to other people (gone from NYC: Michael Nylander!)

Imagine being an Oilers fan, when you open a really great 2nd Christmas gift (Nylander) only to find out it's not really for you, but for Washington! I can relate to the losses this second christmas having watched Bertuzzi, Schneider, Lang, and Calder all move on to new teams.
