They're Forming A JLA On Smallville!

We finally got around to watching last week's Smallville (or maybe it was from the week before last) in which another Phantom Zone bad guy goes on a rampage *yawn* and starts wreaking havok. Oh, and Lana's pregnant with Lex's baby and so of course she now thinks Lex is the greatest, and even approves of him experimenting on Green K victims in order to protect the safety of everyone (including, naturally, her unborn child!). Anyway, totally forgettable episode in all regards - no Lois, no Ollie - until the final bit, where a new superpowered fella shows up, shrouded in mystery. He has powers like what Superman will have (beyond even what young Clark has so far manifested) but takes off without a word spoken or much of a good look allowed. However, he leaves behind a calling card, of sorts, that speaks volumes to comic fans: a broken Oreo cookie!

In case anyone doesn't know what that means and wants to be surprised when it gets revealed on the show, I'll white out the next paragraph with the spoiler info in it. Highlight if with your mouse if you want to read its contents.

Oreos are the favourite snack of one Martian Manhunter, also known as J'onn J'onzz or John Jones. He's one of the seven founding members of the JLA, along with Superman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Batman and Wonder Woman. That means four of the founders have now appeared on Smallville, including Clark. I'm not sure if I'll like how they use MM but there's some potential there, since he has many of the same powers that Supes has, and so could provide some guidance.

Suffice it to say, this new arrival will add to the growing list of costumed faces (?) we've seen brought in from the comics: Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Green Arrow.

They'd better get to it! I was surprised to realize the show's already in its sixth season, and unless things have changed substantially in the last couple of years standard TV contracts are for seven.

Amazing how all those "Clark versus the Kryptonite-powered monster of the week" blend together, ain't it?

By the way, now I've got the $#@&* Wonder Woman theme song going through my head... thanks a bunch!

"You're a wonder, Wonder Woman!"

I think of that whenever I look at my Planetary page of original artwork, since it features the WW analogue from that series, and the dialogue that accompanied it on the published page was her mother saying, "You are a wonder, my daughter."
