Favourite Comic Covers Part 10

Not sure how much this sort of cover resonates with non-comics fans, but fanboy-me looks at something like this and nearly has a heart attack! This scene is so full of power, taking place as it does mere milliseconds before a... dare I say it?... Clash of Titans! The Silver Surfer series from the late 1960s holds a special place in many longtime fans' hearts, because it didn't last very long (18 issues), the Surfer's appearances up until that point had been very carefully metered out by Stan the Man (in order to keep them special), and it was a series that John Buscema was seemingly born to draw! # 4, pictured here, obviously boasted a meeting of two Marvel powerhouses at the time (and still today), in Thor and the Surfer. It also certainly didn't hurt that it, like several of my other faves, was a double-sized 25 center at a time when that really meant something! Add to that formula the fact that that issue just happened to have some sort of distribution problem and therefore was even harder to find than normal, and you've got one of the dream comics -and covers - of the period.
