The Sunday Football Games Deliver!

After an uneven pair of football games yesterday, we got a pair of classic matches today!

First, Chicago didn't have the easy time with the Seahawks that I and others had expected, as it took them Overtime to finally dispatch Seattle. Seattle played better than I'd given them credit for, and the Bears looked good but not great. Should make for an interesting Conference Final between the Saints and Bears.

The much-anticipated Patriots/Chargers game is still underway right now, tied 21-21 with just over four minutes left. San Diego's looked like the team with the greater talent, but have made an incredible number of stupid mistakes. There was the punt that was dropped, and instead of falling on the ball, the punt returner tried to get up and run with it and of course ended up losing it when he was hit by two Patriots. And the idiot who head butted a New England player and turned a Patriot 4th and long into a fresh set of downs for them. And the interception on a New England 3rd down play where the Charger ran with the ball, right into a crowd of opposing players, only to have the ball stripped. Have these guys never been taught to just go down, especially in a game where they've already given the ball away a ridiculous number of times?

If the Chargers end up losing this game, as it's beginning to look like they will, that'll make two games this weekend that were won by the visitors, each because the home teams weren't outplayed so much as that they outmistaked their opponents, although maybe that's just a form of being outplayed, I suppose. Mistake-free football it certainly wasn't! On the other hand, LaDainian Tomlinsom has lived up to the hype, looking incredible several times. And thankfully he's not a showboater about it, making him that much easier to cheer for.

New England's just made a field goal to go up 24-21 with 1:10 to go. San Diego's wasted two of their three 2nd half timeouts already, and had to spend their final one on New England's current drive. So their season comes down to this: a final drive, no timeouts, needing at least a field goal, and just over a minute to work with.

And now, with 0:08 left, the Chargers have gotten to the New England 37 and are trying a field goal attempt. It's up... and it's short, and wide right! Wow, what a disappointing way to finish off such an amazing season for San Diego.

But, it does set up yet another New England/Indianapolis Conference Final next weekend, as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady go at it once more! That's pretty exciting!

Final Scores: Chicago 27, Seattle 24 (O/T)
New England 24, San Deigo 21

Once again, I'm 2-2 for the weekend, making me 4-4 so far. Sigh.
I think Hinckley was 3-1 this weekend, so 7-1 overall. Double sigh.
