Shocker In The First Half

It's halftime in the Bowl Championship Series National Title Game (college football), and # 2 Florida is up 34-14 on the favoured, and # 1 ranked, Ohio State Buckeyes. If you only saw the opening minute, you'd have seen Ohio State run the opening kickoff back, 93 yards, for a touchdown 16 seconds into the match! Since then, the Gaters have taken over and controlled pretty much every aspect of the game. At one point in the 2nd quarter, total yardage was 209 to 69, in favour of Florida, and first downs were 9 to 1, also for the Gators. The most controversial call by either team so far was Ohio State deciding to go for it on 4th and less than a yard, at their own 29! I admired the guts of the coach making that call, but it became clear that they didn't have the stuff to back it up when the running back couldn't pull it off. Taking over on downs, the Gators were then held to a field goal, and went up 27-14, which didn't seem so bad. But then, a few plays later, a sack of the OSU QB resulted in him dropping the ball and Florida recovering it, putting them in excellent field position once again. This short drive earned them a touchdown just before the half ended, putting them up by the daunting 20 point spread.

Unless the Buckeyes come out fast in the 2nd half and do something to get back in the game, I suspect Vicki and I will be going to bed earlier than expected.
