Favourite Comic Covers Part 9
You want to know why your Humble Blogger doesn't do, has never done, and will never do drugs? Just glom onto this beauty of a Neal Adams shocker and then ask yourself, Who in their right mind would ever risk a scene like that?
In all seriousness, the 2-part storyline in Green Lantern/Green Arrow #s 85 & 86 probably contributed as much as anything else to my firmly held belief that only a fool would never hand control of their life over to anyone else. Seeing Speedy - and how appropriate was that costumed ID for someone who, twenty years after his intro, would be portrayed as a heroine junkie? - at the mercy of his habit, and then having to rely on the assistance of others in order to kick it, made it about as likely that I'd ever sample drugs later in life as a snowball's chance of showing up in Hell (or southern Ontario, right now!).
Laugh, if you will; but this comic cover and the story behind it were absolutely formative for this young comic fan.

well it's a little "special episode" but a neat cover
What's a 'special episode', slang-slinger?
I think she means 'after-school special'
I doubt anyone who read the comic in the early 70s, when it came out, mistook it for an After School Special. Panels showing kids shooting up weren't exactly standard fare at the time on network TV. In fact, I suspect the FCC at the time would've prohibited any such activity.
Oh, why do I bother? You kids today and your lack of appreciation for history.. why, in my day, we'd have taken you out behind the woodshed and beaten some sense into ya!
Is Green Arrow the gay hero??
No that there's anything wrong with that!
No, although there are currently two Green Arrows: Oliver Queen, and his illegimate son Connor Hawke. The former would never be accused of being gay - he's always cheating on his girlfriends with other women - but the latter was thought to be gay for awhile but it turned out he was just more virginal than gay.
