More Great Football!

A day after the NFL provided lots of late-day thrills with the Broncos/49ers game, we're getting a similar treat via the Fiesta Bowl! The heavily-favoured Oklahoma Sooners had trailed Boise State 28-10, then scored 25 straight points to go up 35-28 with less than a minute left. Facing 4th and long and only seconds on the clock, the Boise State Broncos (another Broncos team!) pulled off a completed pass and a planned trick-lateral, to run it all the way in for the tying touchdown!

We're now into O/T, US college style! This is a more entertaining format than its NFL equivalent, in my opinion. Each team gets a turn at scoring points, using the normal four down system, starting at the other team's 25-yard line. After each such attempt, if the score is still tied, they do it again, but starting with the 3rd attempt (if it gets that far), then each team has to attempt a 2-pt conversion on any touchdown they score.

Sooners just scored a touchdown (followed by a single point) on their first play. Now it's up to Boise State to match that result (get 7 pts) or Oklahoma wins the game.

The Broncos blew the first 2 downs, only getting 3 yards. Now it's 3rd and 7.

3rd play was a nice short pass, for a 1st down on the OU 13-yard line. On the 2nd down, a nice running play nets them most of the needed yards, making it 3rd and 1. Next play is a run that goes nowhere, bringing up 4th and 2 yards. Can they pull it off, or is that the ballgame? Boise State calls a timeout so we'll just have to wait....

Stupid commercials. Wish I had this part of the game buffered!!

OK, here we go. They line up, and... Touchdown! Looked like a broken play when it started but it ended with a lovely lob throw into the endzone. So now the announcers are discussing whether Boise will go for a 2-pt conversion to win it all! It's looking like they might, which is very gutsy considering the odds are against it being successful. Timeout taken by OU. So will they go for the extra point, and go into a 2nd O/T, or try for the 2-pt conversion to win it right now? And they're going for it! The QB hands it off along with a fake throw, and the RB runs for a quick route into the endzone and the victory!

Wow! The underdogs lead most of the way, then fell behind, but pulled it out in a ballsy fashion in O/T!! "It doesn't get much better than that," as one of the announcers just said!

Now, I don't really have to get up for work tomorrow morning, do I??
