Certainly one of the best mysteries in Lost has been the Others. For a long time, we knew next to nothing about them; in fact, at one point late in Season One, it even looked like they might not really exist, when the French Woman, Danielle, seemed to be crazy - possibly dangerously so - and delusional in her claims about this other group on the island. Then, by the time we finally learned the truth about Benry in the second season, we knew the Others were real, but still had little clue as to their size, motivations or resources. So far in Season Three, we've been getting lots and lots of info about the Others, with presumably tons more to come.
Like everything else in the show, the Others have turned out to be more complex and surprising than we originally surmised. After all, exceeding our expectations is a hallmark of Lost, and one of the reasons I like it so much.
