Funny Caption

I'm watching a show that's presenting their idea of the "50 Most Outrageous Moments in Sports", and one of them was baseball player Steve Lyons' moment at first base when he decided to dive for the bag, made it safely just ahead of the throw but got his pants full of dirt in the process, and proceeded to undo his belt and drop his pants in order to get the dirt out... in front of a stadium full of people and a national TV audience! The best part was the caption they put up for it: Lyons, the Glitch in the Wardrobe! (In case it's lost on anyone: Narnia book - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.)

Other notable moments shown:

- the field goal kicker for Arizona Cardinals who made the kick in the first quarter of a game, and then started jumping around wildly, pumping his fists in jubilation only to fall down to the ground, writhing in pain! He'd apparently hyper-extended his knee with all his excessive celebrating!

- Randy Johnson's pitch that never made it to the plate because it collided, at about 100 mph, with a passing bird, amidst a shower of white feathers coming off what I assume to be a dead-by-the-time-it-hit-the-ground flyer.

- Leon Lett's 2nd famous gaff, where he slips in the snow and touches the ball after his Cowboys successfully blocked a field goal attempt seemingly to win the game, except that Lett's contact with the ball allows the Dolphins to pick it up and run it into the endzone to steal the victory away.

- Mets coach Bobby Valentine caught on camera standing at the back of his team's dugout, giving instructions with a fake mustache and glasses on, after being tossed earlier in the game for arguing a pitch.

- Steve Bartman's infamous contact with the fly ball that I wrote about here.

- HNIC clip of Tie Domi squirting his water bottle onto the fans behind him in Philadelphia.

- video I'd never seen before that was incredible: a small plane comes down just beyond the home run fence at a minor league baseball field, where there's a game underway that's been televised (probably local cable), and the plane crashes and bursts on fire as it hits the ground! As the commentator says, "I can't believe what we just saw!"

- some boxer's mother jumps into the ring and starts hitting her son's opponent over the head with her shoe!

- the football player (Jim Marshall) who picked up the fumble and proceeded to run it all the way into the endzone... but his own endzone! Instead of scoring a touchdown for his team, he recorded a safety for the other guys! The commentator during this was having a field day: "He's running the wrong way! He's running the wrong way!!"

- one for Anonymous and me: the Bruins/Rangers dustup in 1979 at MSG in which Terry O'Reilly climbs up into the stands and starts whaling on a fan - very ugly scene!

- of course the Pedro Martinez/Don Zimmer encounter from the 2003 ALCS, in which pitcher Martinez grabs 72-year-old coach Zimmer by his bald head and throws him to the ground, made the top 10!

- the minor league baseball scene, shown hundreds of times, where the outfielder (Rodney McCray) is tracking the fly ball at full speed and runs into - and through! - the wooden wall in right centre field!

- the fly ball that turned into a home run after it hit outfielder Jose Canseco's head and bounced over the wall

- the Chris Chambliss homerun trot in 1976, after winning the ALCS for the Yankees against KC, in which the crowd unbelievably streamed out onto the field at Yankee Stadium and made it next to impossible for him to make it around the bases!

- the anthem singer at a Team Canada/Team USA hockey game in 2005 who forgets the lyrics partway through the American anthem, says, "Sorry!" and walks off the ice, returns 30 seconds later to continue, and has the small mat under her feet slip out from under her as she steps on the ice, causing her to fall straight down on her ass!

The top 2 were both boxing moments.

- # 2 was Tyson biting the guy's ear (yawn)

- # 1 was FanMan landing in a motorized parachute in the middle of a boxing match.
