Last Night's Play

It was certainly all that anyone was talking about today, prior to the juniors winning gold for Canada.

If you haven't heard: The Oilers were trailing the Stars 5-4 in Edmonton, with about 15 seconds left. Edm had pulled their goalie for the extra skater, but a Dallas forward stole the puck as the Oilers were coming out of their own zone. He skated toward the empty net, with nobody even close to him. As he glided in front of the net, he nonchalantly waved at the puck with his stick, intending to just nudge it the last several inches into the empty net with the back of his stick. But somehow he fanned on the shot and both he and the puck slid through and out of the crease, at which point he fell down flat on his ass. With under 10 seconds left, an Oiler backchecker picked up the puck and moved it to a forward at the red line, who passed it to another forward, who deked out the Dallas goalie and scored the tying goal with a fraction of a second left on the clock!

One of the most amazing finishes to a third period ever!

The Stars eventually won it in Overtime (or maybe a shootout) but the Oilers got one of the sweetest points imaginable!

That mess up at the net made Sportcenter's "Highlight of the Night" and it totally slayed me. I could believe he messed up that so badly... And now to find out that the tying goal was scored as a result of that mess up, that just makes it so much juicier!
